RPS English Board candidate Rob Severn outlines his views

Rob Severn

Rob Severn

I AM first and foremost a community pharmacist, and I have always believed in the need for a strong professional body with a strong vision, led by an inclusive leadership team who interact, listen and respond to members needs.

Now, more than ever, what is needed by this great profession is a clear vision and professional leadership. During my professional life I have engaged and worked with pharmacists and other healthcare professionals and bodies to the benefit of patients.  I have a track record of leading, delivering, supporting and representing pharmacy through my Local Pharmaceutical Committee (LPC) work and developing a collaborative approach at the Local Practice Network (LPN) with other sectors of  the profession.

I believe that I can bring to the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) English Pharmacy Board a detailed understanding of the current challenges and opportunities faced by pharmacists in today’s fragmented healthcare system, pulling on my experience gained in a variety of roles to deliver an environment where pharmacists can flourish and are empowered to deliver pharmaceutical care irrespective of the setting in which they work.

Key issues that I will address if elected for the benefit of pharmacists are:

  • The RPS must be an essential member and collaborator with wider pharmacy organisations to promote the profession to leave a lasting legacy.
  • Medicines optimisation agenda, pharmacists across all sectors need to work together to deliver patient-centred care, the RPS are the only body who can fully enable this and prevent pharmacist being compartmentalised.
  • Decriminalisation of dispensing errors.

The future will bring great challenges but I firmly believe that a strong Royal Pharmaceutical Society with strong leadership with good quality representation will provided the profession with the best possible framework to succeed, and I respectfully ask you to vote for a candidate who will strive to deliver this, I believe that I am that candidate, vote Robert Severn.

Rob Severn is a pharmacy manager for a multiple pharmacy group and chairman of Nottinghamshire LPC. He is standing for election to the Royal Pharmaceutical Society English Pharmacy Board
